HAMPSHIRE COUNTY PET ADOPTION PROGRAM
Adoption Process, Fees & Information (we appreciate your interest in our foster animals!!)
|
ADULT DOGS:
All of our adult dogs are spayed or neutered, vaccinated,
heartworm and lyme tested, and current on heart worm and
flea prevention. The Adoption Donation Fee is $175.00.*
* This covers vaccines, food, spay /neuter surgery & medical
expenses. Sometimes we rescue dogs that need more than routine
medical care, i.e. Diabetes, medication for testing positive for LYME,
broken legs, skin rashes, the list could be endless.
PUPPIES:
All of our puppies are up to date on vaccines but generally
require an additional 1 to 3 vaccines since puppies receive a
series of vaccines until they pass 16 weeks of age. Also, we
require that any puppy adopted be spayed or neutered around
6 months of age. We do refund $75.00* to each adopting
family upon proof of spaying or neutering.
* We STRONGLY advocate Spaying & Neutering, that is why we
believe in returning a portion of your adoption fee, a" deposit" if you
will. ..YOU have made a deposit into your pet's well being for a
healthier & happier life. THANK YOU.
ADULTS CATS: All of our adult cats have been FeLV and FIV
tested. They have been spayed or neutered and are current
on their FVRCP and rabies vaccinations. The adoption donation
fee is $125.00.*
*This fee covers vaccines, spay/neuter surgery, food and any other
medical expenses. We rescue some cats/ kittens that have had
broken legs, some have had to have an eye removed due to serious
infection when we found them, etc. We have had in our care "bottle
babies." Kittens that have either been dumped, or their momma has
been killed. What Mother Nature does naturally & with grace,
humans have to take great care & effort to make it as smooth for
the little ones as possible .We take the same care for our felines as
we do our canines & rabbits.
KITTENS: At least one kitten in every litter has been FeLV
and FIV tested. They have received at least one of two
FVRCP vaccinations needed and if they are old enough, they will
have received a rabies vaccination also. Some of the kittens in
our foster care are 6 months+ & some are much younger. We
realize that some veterinarians spay/neuter at young ages, we
however tend to exercise a greater caution & do not do
pediatric spay/neuters. Therefore, if your kitten is not
spayed/neutered upon adoption, we do REQUIRE that it be
done at the appropriate age. We will refund $50.00* to
adopting families upon proof of spaying/neutering.
* We STRONGLY advocate Spaying/Neutering!!! Which is why we believe in
returning a portion of your adoption fee, we think of it as " a deposit" if you
will....a deposit YOU make into your pet's well being for a happier & healthier
life! THANK YOU!
STEP #1 ( the most important, next to step #4) Ask yourself & all involved in this commitment: Is this the right time? Am I financially able? Can we provide the time & patience needed during the adjustment period? This should not be a decision made on a whim.....so wanting to adopt is great!! But,if after seriously given it thought...you find it is not the best thing right now, you are always welcome to check back with us or sponsor one of our foster animals. Knowing your limitations and recognizing them is a BOLD and MATURE decision--that we respect and commend.
If you decide it is right for you and your family, then---
STEP #2 fill out an application. You may download one from this web site, or come to PetSmart, Saturdays 11-4 and fill one out. Please understand we WILL check the references you provide. If necessary, be prepared for a scheduled home visit from one of our volunteers. If a home visit is a problem for you then the adoption is a problem for us.
STEP #3 Once your application is approved, you will be given the medical records of the companion you are taking home as well as a "goody bag."
STEP #4 Provide TLC for your new companion & welcome them into your family for life.
We thank you for providing a loving & permanent home for our "former babies!" We invite you to stay in touch with us via e-mail, mail or come by on Saturdays to visit---we always like hearing how everyone is doing!! This is an adoption for life---we want a win-win situation for both our animals & you! Any questions, concerns, happy stories, whatever---we want to hear from you...our doghouse is always open.
|
RABBITS : The adoption fee is $25.00, where upon proof of spaying or neutering, we will send you $10.00.* * Again, we reiterate SPAYING/NEUTERING!! Which is why we believe in returning a portion of your adoption fee, we think of it as a deposit....a deposit YOU have made into your pet's well being.
|
ADOPTION DONATION FEES are tax deductible! We are a non profit organization with 501c(3) status.
If you adopt a puppy, kitten or rabbit that you have spayed or neutered and you would like to "donate" your deposit back to us, GREAT! Just let us know.
